Film, Love, Food, and AAPI Heritage Month
A Ceres team member shares her thoughts and invites you to watch "Love Chinatown"
Dear Friends,
May has always been a special time for me; not just because it’s the start of summer, but also because it’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
As someone who moved to the U.S. from China a decade ago, this month has always carried a particular weight for me. It’s not just a celebration but it reminds me of the importance of recognition and paying attention to the voices and stories that don’t always get center stage.
At Ceres, we’ve had the privilege of screening films that do exactly that. One that has stayed with me is Love Chinatown by Karen Yung, which won our Most Inspiring Personal Account award. It takes us back to NYC’s Chinatown in 2020, right when the pandemic hit. What unfolded was a beautiful story of care, resilience, and a community coming together to support one another. 📽️
If you haven’t seen it (or if it’s been a while) I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch. It’s a reminder of how communities sustain each other through hard times.
With love,
Sarah Deng, Communication Strategist at Ceres and Founder of Rooted Eats.
